She froze, her breath catching in her throat. That voice, the one that had haunted her since she first woke, was coming from what seemed like very far away, yet its menace was as potent as ever. Its dark, soft timbre and gently chiding manner was in terrifying contrast to its threatening, animalistic undertones. She heard quiet steps coming towards her and was suddenly scooped up into those same formidable arms against a broad chest that felt like carved stone. She gasped as her captor strode through the darkness, seeming to need no light to guide him. The strength she felt radiating from his body quashed any thought of struggling. He wasn t hurting her now, but if she tried resisting him, she sensed that he could and would use whatever force needed to easily restrain her. Too afraid to look at his face for fear of what she would see (although in fact it was too dark to see anything at all), she squeezed her eyes shut tight like a child, shrinking into herself as much as his arms would allow. How long had he been watching her there in the darkness, mocking her feeble efforts to escape?
